How does reality television relate to and affect people who watch it?  What makes reality television shows so popular?  What is the largest archetype that you see being used in reality television shows?

I don't watch reality TV! But, I'll try my best to answer the questions using what I've learned from researching, talking to other people, and in class.

I'd say that reality TV in a way relates to everyone, everywhere in some way! But I also think that not every reality show is real. Just look at this website http://www.realitytvworld.com/ the list goes on and on and on and on. Not everyone show on the list is truly not scripted, yet that's beside the point. Looking at the list there is something there for everyone. For every aspect of life no matter how you live yours; whether your a chef or a wanna be model or just a young adult look for a show that relates to you. But how does it affect it's viewers? It affects them in the way that it shows a very shallow, one dimensional view of whats life is. Since its supposedly a "reality show" i looked up the word reality and the mean I received doesn't match what plays out on the screen of a reality TV show. Reality is the state of being real as stated in the dictionary

How can people even try to pretend its real? if you have a camera pointing in your face twenty-four seven you're not gonna act the same as you would in the privacy of your own home. You'll watch what you say. Think before you speak. Those are things that don't happen in real life.

What makes it popular? Well its a escape! For thirty minutes of your life you can sit down, turn the TV on and say oh so that is what life is suppose to be like. ( supposedly )

The most commonly seen archetype in reality TV I would have to say is the witchy girl. No matter what show your watching; every single of of them has a mean, witchy girls. It's like our society feels they can't function and create a show unless there is a mean witch faced girl.

In Conclusion "Reality TV" is as fake a barbie doll!
